Paris Saint-Germain supporters and the watching world will be forced to wait a further week to see Lionel Messi make his debut with his new club, with Mauricio Pochettino not naming him in the club’s squad to face Brest.
The Friday evening fixture had been seen as a possible chance for Messi to begin his post-Barcelona career, but that will now not be the case.
Neymar and Leandro Paredes will both miss the match too, with the duo having reached the final of the Copa America and having not had a pre-season.
The information that Messi won’t be on the list comes from Le Parisien, but there is also a sense that he will play on the fourth Ligue 1 match of the season, which is set to come against Stade de Reims away from home on August 29.
This would arrive just before the first international break of the campaign, where Messi is set to feature for Argentina in a 2022 World Cup qualifying triple-header against Venezuela, Brazil and Bolivia.
Messi will stay in Paris, training on Friday, whilst his teammates have travelled to Brittany to prepare for the Ligue 1 clash.
In addition to Paredes and Neymar, Sergio Rico will also miss out, opening the door for Gianluigi Donnarumma to debut with PSG.
