Melbourne City vs Western United Preview

Melbourne City

Melbourne City start the week as strong favourites, they open at $1.72 on the back of a very memorable second half comeback in the semi final against Adelaide United.

City will be incredibly motivated to make this three premierships in a row and I would expect them to come out of the gates absolutely flying.

There is a bit of value for a Melbourne City lead after 30 minutes ($3.00) and if you’re looking to put together a multi on this one I would suggest a leg like that.

If you’re looking for a goal scorer from City it is incredibly hard to look past Jamie Maclaren, he won the Golden Boot this year with 16 goals and can turn the game on it’s head whenever he feels like it.

J-Mac is the obvious choice for an anytime goal scorer but I also think Matthew Leckie is a good shout as well, he’s been City’s second scoring option this year and has 9 on the year.

Western United

John Aloisi’s Men open the week as $4.60 underdogs and while that seems quite steep, this is definitely a match that United can win.

The underdog has won three of the last four A-League matches between Melbourne City and Western United FC and after United’s 4-1 routing of Melbourne Victory, they will be coming into this match with very high levels of confidence.

If you’re looking for a Western United leg, I like them head to head. $4.60 is great value for this outfit and if you think they can get it done a nice simple leg like that is all you need.

Aleksandar Prijovic has been United’s leading goal scorer this season with 12 goals and I don’t think it would be worth getting to exotic if you’re trying to pick a United goal scorer.

Dylan Wenzel-Hall would be my other choice but he only has 5 goals in 26 appearances so I would lead more towards Prijovic.

The Tip

I think City will be too good in this one. They were head and shoulders above every other team before their trip to the Asian Champions League and I think their experience in big games will be enough to out class United on Saturday.
