Hearts of Oak recovered from the mid-week stalemate at Chelsea to beat Medeama SC 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium in the Ghana Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Young attacker Isaac Mensah struck the solitary goal of the game 11 minutes after the interval as the Phobians recorded their 9th triumph of the season.
Saturday’s victory remains useful revenge for the Rainbow club who suffered a 1-0 loss to the Mauve and Yellows in the reverse fixture way back in January at Akoon Park.
Samuel Boadu opted for a double-pivot midfield role that featured Abu Ushau and Abdul Aziz Nurudeen while Gladson Awako and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh all started.
Meanwhile, experienced midfielder Sulley Muntari was out of the Hearts squad while Medeama had the experienced Burkina Faso forward Amed Toure starting.
Both sides created decent chances but none could capitalise on the opportunities until Mensah headed an Afriyie Barnieh cross to beat Kamil Anaba in the visitors’ goalpost.
The victory for the champions had put them ahead of the Tarkwa-based side though the two sides are tied on 36 points.
