Tacoma Defiance on Sunday returns home to continue its 2021 USL Championship campaign with the second of two fixtures this week at Cheney Stadium, facing off with LA Galaxy II (1:30 p.m. PT / ESPN+). This marks the second of four scheduled meetings of the season between the two sides, after the teams played to a 1-1 draw in Southern California on May 9.
Ahead of Sunday’s match, Defiance has agreed to a USL Standard Loan with Sounders FC First Team goalkeeper Andrew Thomas.
Defiance returned to Cheney Stadium for the first time in over a month on Wednesday, earning a 1-1 draw against Real Monarchs thanks to a late goal from Samuel Adeniran. Tacoma suffered a three-match losing streak during its road stretch earlier this month, falling to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, Phoenix Rising FC and Las Vegas Lights.
Prior to that, Tacoma earned a pair of home wins last month at Cheney Stadium, capping a three-match unbeaten run to start the season. On May 13, Defiance emerged victorious in a 3-1 result over San Diego Loyal SC before recording its first shutout of the season on May 16, defeating Orange County SC 1-0.
