Marseille vs PSG build-up & previous line-ups:
Heading into the latest round of Ligue 1 fixtures Marseille find themselves sitting 10 points behind Paris Saint-Germain though have a game in hand. Les Phocéens returned to successful ways in France’s top division last time out when they ran out 4-1 winners over Lorient subsequently ending a three-game winless streak (one draw and two defeats). Turning attention to PSG they’ve lost 21 of their 40 meetings against them in Ligue 1 this century, with their most recent home success coming in November 2011 when they ran out 3-0 winners, this means the Paris-based club have won more than 50% of their league games against OM over that period. Another frustrating historical footnote is the fact Marseille have conceded at least two goals in each of their last eight home matches against PSG in Ligue 1 (20 in total), which is their worst such run at Stade Vélodrome against a single opponent in the French top flight.
To put PSG’s imperious away form of late into perspective, they’ve lost just one of their previous 11 games on the road in Ligue 1, although it came most recently at Rennes when they suffered a 2-0 loss. That blip doesn’t take away Pochettino’s side’s knack of gaining points after the 85th minute in Ligue 1 season. To date they’ve won six points, which is at least three more than any other side. The dethroned French champions currently command a nine-point lead atop of the young French championship. As touched upon, PSG are unbeaten on their last five league visits to Marseille having won four matches across that span of time, including their most recent visit to Stade Vélodrome when they posted a 0-2 success in February 2021: a game that saw Kylian Mbappé and Mauro Icardi get their names on the scoresheet.
- Marseille (vs Lazio): López; Rongier, Caleta-Car, Saliba, Peres; Kamara, Guendouzi; Ünder, Payet, Lirola; Milik.
- PSG (vs RB Leipzig): Navas; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Kimpembe, Mendes; Verratti, Gueye, Herrera; Messi, Mbappé, Draxler.

Player to watch: Kylian Mbappé (PSG)
Any potential dream of joining Real Madrid is now behind Kylian Mbappé, whose immediate focus is on PSG and to be fair he responded well by netting four goals and creating a further three across his first six league appearances of this season. Last time out the 22-year-forward netted against Angers subsequently ending a four-game scoring drought and he comes into this game with Marseille boasting a stellar goalscoring record against them. Mbappé has registered six goals against them for PSG in Ligue 1 and he could end the weekend equalling or surpassing Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the best goalscorer in this fixture in the top flight (7). On top of that, Mbappé could become the first player to make 100 touches in the opposition box in Ligue 1 this season (currently on 95); this is almost the double of any other player in this metric (Moses Simon of Nantes is second with 50).
