RMC Sport report this afternoon that Marseille have opened internal proceedings after two racist comments aimed at South Korean forward Hyun-Jun Suk were picked up on microphones near their bench in the match against Troyes.
Club president Pablo Longoria notably spoke with the employee who spoke of “sushi” when mocking Suk, after the striker had put in a rough challenge on an OM player. The other comment referred to him as a “samurai”.
Longoria had offered his apologies on behalf of the club to Troyes earlier this week, and told the offender today that the comments were unacceptable. Internal proceedings have been launched with the club’s HR department, while all those on the bench have now been banned from speaking about opposition players.
RMC add that reportedly no Marseille player was involved in making the comments, which occurred during the 1-0 win over the Champagne side in a game played behind closed doors. The two clubs have since released a joint statement condemning the words used by the individuals and reiterating their commitment against racism.
