Fulham have appointed Marco Silva as their new manager on a three-year contract until June 2024, following Scott Parker’s exit to join Bournemouth earlier this week.

Silva joins Fulham after 18 months out of management following his sacking from Everton in December 2019, having endured a disastrous start to the 2019-20 season with the Toffees.

Speaking on his new role to fulhamfc.com, Silva confirmed that he is “really pleased and proud” to take up the role with “trust” shown by Chairman, Shahid Khan ahead of the “big challenge” in targeting instant rebound promotion back to the Premier League after suffering relegation last season in 18th place.

Khan also iterated that his own commitment to Fulham is “resolute” and has vowed to try and deliver the “very best possible” players and management on and off the pitch who can “achieve all of our objectives” this season.

The 70 year-old went on to explain that he was impressed with Silva’s “break down in detail his experiences at each of his stops as a head coach”, which include spells at Estoril, Hull and Watford as well as “full understanding of current players and ideas for how to improve this season with “energy and optimism”.

Silva has also confirmed that former Fulham midfielder, Luis Boa Morte has been signed as part of Silva’s coaching staff, having previously worked as part of Fulham’s Academy as well as with the Portuguese manager at Everton.

Silva’s first competitive debut as Fulham manager will come on Sunday 8 August at home against Middlesbrough at Craven Cottage, with kick-off scheduled for 1:30pm BST in front of the Sky Sports cameras in the first of two matches to be screened live in August alongside a trip to Millwall on Tuesday 17 August.

Silva will also face his former club – Hull next month as the Tigers visit Craven Cottage on Saturday 21 August (3pm BST) in an untelevised clash.
