Marc Guehi can replace Kurt Zouma if he leaves and save us millions – Talk Chelsea

There is a lot of interest bubbling up for Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma this transfer window, and it genuinely looks like he could leave the club.

I wouldn’t blame him at all, he has dropped down the pecking order and if as you’d imagine, Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva, and Andreas Christensen to continue the form they had last season, then Zouma is never going to be any more than a backup here through no fault of his own.

If he wants to go somewhere where he is a regular starter, then kudos to him and I’d wish him well. I’d miss him, his character is clearly great to have a round, but I’d understand.

However, instead of Chelsea then going out and spending say £40m on a new defender just for example, I’d rather save that money and use it for Erling Haaland instead, simply because of how good our current centre back options are, and the fact we have Marc Guehi back at the club. It’s also a double win because not only are you saving £40m by not buying a new centre back, you’ve also got the £25m odd coming in for Zouma.

Rudiger, Silva, and Christensen aren’t getting displaced by many defenders out there right now, especially not £40m defenders. So anyone that comes in would have to be a backup, or be world class and a lot of money and then that’s a different story.

So if we are buying a backup, just use Guehi there. Will he be happy with that? I’m not so sure, but at least he has a good chance of getting plenty of game time with the amount of games and competitions we will be in, as well as the fact he can develop and learn alongside legends such as Thiago Silva.

You cannot doubt Guehi’s ability, he is a solid all-round defender who can play as well. He does have parts of his game that need ironing out, but what better place to do that at than under a top coach like Thomas Tuchel, learning alongside top class experienced players like the aforementioned Silva, and Cesar Azpilicueta?

If you told me Guehi was starting Chelsea’s first game of the season, it would not concern me, I know he has the quality and talent to be a good Chelsea defender already, and he is only going to get better.

So save the cash, smash all that in Dortmund’s direction for Haaland, and if Zouma goes, give his spot to Guehi, we’ll be just fine with that.
