Manchester United’s pursuit of England international and Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier has stalled with the Spanish champions demanding more money.

According to The Sun, United are offering £18million for the versatile defender.

The Madrid side, though, want far more and are ready to play hardball..

Personal terms are not expected to be an issue with sources saying that the former Tottenham and Burnley defender has agreed to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s terms.

Trippier has enjoyed a successful spell in Spain’s capital city following his arrival from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2019.

He arrived for a reported fee of £21.7m and since then he has been a key member of Diego Simeone’s squad which saw them win La Liga for the first time since the 2013/14 season.

It is no surprise that Simeone wants him to stay given the quality he has both offensively and defensively as well as his experience competing at the highest level of the game.

The former Premier League defender is said to be open to a return to the league and the Manchester Evening News reported he has made arrangements to move to Manchester.

However, with two years still left on his contract following Atleti’s decision to trigger a clause on his contract which would see him stay for another 12-months, it will not be an easy signature for United to claim.

With the Premier League season due to commence in less than four weeks, Solskjaer will want as much business completed as possible before the big kick-off.

The club have already secured the signature of one of Europe’s most exciting talents Jadon Sancho and are still working on a deal to bring in Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.

United struggled in the transfer market last summer and were scrambling for signings in the last few days of the window.

Everyone involved this time around will want to desperately avoid a repetition of that event.
