Manchester United could make up to four signings in summer

An insight into Manchester United’s summer transfer plans has been provided on Monday.

The Manchester Evening News report that the Red Devils could make as many as four signings in the summer transfer window.

Man United accept that midfield is the biggest problem in their squad, and that position has been identified as a priority.

The only central midfielder named-dropped as a potential addition in that report is West Ham’s Declan Rice.

Manchester United’s summer plans

Elsewhere, the MEN add that Man United are expected to be in the market for an attacking addition as Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba and Juan Mata are due to leave at the end of their contracts in June.

Anthony Martial is also out in the cold at present, whilst Cristiano Ronaldo is an ageing option that will need replacing in the near future.

A defensive signing is also under consideration as Eric Bailly and Phil Jones could be sold in the summer. This would leave the Manchester outfit with just three senior centre-back options in the form of Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof.

And finally, the MEN report that if Dean Henderson is allowed to leave then a back-up goalkeeper would be recruited as the 38-year-old Lee Grant is also out of contract in the summer.

Henderson was one of the most in-form Premier League keepers during his stint with Sheffield United, but his career has stagnated since he opted to return to Old Trafford where David de Gea has recaptured his best form of late.

And with the World Cup set to take place later this year, surely Henderson would want a move to ensure he gets enough playing time to earn a place at Qatar.
