Manchester City are into the FA Women’s Continental League Cup quarter-finals after beating Leicester City 5-0 at The Pirelli Stadium this evening.
Ellen White opened the scoring early on in Burton upon Trent while Lauren Hemp helped herself to a brace and Georgia Stanway and Vicky Losada also got their names on the scoresheet as The Cityzens cruised into the last eight.
White opened the scoring after just nine minutes when she produced a trademark close range finish from a Jess Park cross and things soon got even better for Manchester City when Park was again the provider for Hemp to head home the game’s second goal.
A minute later, it was 3-0. Youngster Park again caused problems for the Leicester City defence, passing the ball to Stanway who then produced a fine finish from the edge of the box.
Manchester City would go into the half-time interval four goals to the good. Full-back Lucy Bronze delivered an inch-perfect cross to the back post for Hemp to power home her second goal of the game. Steph Houghton then curled a free-kick against the post before the crossbar denied Hemp a hat-trick of headed goals.
Gareth Taylor’s side made it 5-0 soon after the break when Losada took aim from distance and the ball flew into the top corner of the Leicester City net.
Manchester City had further chances to extend their lead throughout the second half but home keeper Sophie Harris didn’t have to pick the ball out of the back of the net again.
Manchester City will now take on Bristol City in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup quarter-finals at The Academy Stadium next Wednesday.
