Man Utd target Haaland ‘respectful towards contract’ at Dortmund

Erling Haaland expects to disappoint Manchester United in the summer after saying he will be ‘respectful’ towards his Borussia Dortmund contract.

The scoring sensation has caught the eye of United scouts with his stunning performances in Germany.

He recently scored a brace as Dortmund beat RB Leipzig to lift the DFB-Pokal trophy.

Haaland has also been linked with European giants Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

When asked about the transfer rumours, Haaland said: “I have a contract for a couple of years, so I am respectful towards my contract.

“I am a simple guy. When I like something I just want to have more – when I score a goal, I always chase the next goal.”

Haaland is contracted with Dortmund until June 2024. It’s thought that multiple top clubs will bid for him once his £68million release clause becomes active next year.

However, Dortmund’s chances of keeping their star man were boosted by their top four finish.

Despite spending some of the campaign outside of the Champions League places, a seven-game winning streak in the final two months saw them finish third.

Reacting to the season run-in, Haaland continued: “It was a relief to secure that spot. It was really important.

“Like I have said before I am a big fan of the Champions League and I think everybody knows that.

“I have big dreams. I just won my first major trophy and it was a great feeling. So I want to win trophies.”

Without gaining Champions League qualification, Dortmund clearly would’ve run the risk of losing the 20-year-old striker.

Haaland has been widely tipped to take over from Sergio Aguero at City. The Argentinian superstar will leave in June after a hugely successful ten years at the Etihad.

Haaland’s stunning goalscoring record makes him the perfect man to fill those boots. He bagged 29 goals in just 27 games for Red Bull Salzburg to earn an £18million move to Dortmund last year.

Since then, he’s notched an incredible 57 goals in 59 matches. It’s no wonder pretty much all of the top sides in Europe are vying for his signature.
