Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was this evening drawn on the contract situation of star midfielder Paul Pogba.
Pogba’s uncertain future
The subject of Pogba’s Old Trafford future has of course come back to the fore in a major way of late.
This comes with the French midfielder’s current terms in Manchester due to come to an end in less than a year’s time.
In turn, with Pogba fresh off the back of a fine start to the new campaign – which saw him make history with a whopping seven assists across his first four Premier League appearances – it should come as little surprise to hear that those in a position of power at the Theatre of Dreams are now pushing their midfield enigma to commit his future to the club.
An update on the situation midway through September, meanwhile, pointed to progress being made towards precisely that.
On the back of United’s Premier League downing of Newcastle, it was revealed that Pogba was ‘leaning towards’ penning a new deal with the Red Devils, having been boosted by the return of Cristiano Ronaldo:
🚨 Exclusive: Paul Pogba leaning towards signing new Manchester United contract. Saturday had major impact on 28yo’s thinking over future. Many factors to consider but now a genuine chance that once talks resume an extension may follow @TheAthleticUK #MUFC https://t.co/KlK4HsrZtm

This was followed by a further update on the situation early in October, when French outlet L’Equipe suggested that the 28-year-old is indeed prepared to pen fresh terms in Manchester, albeit only if made the Premier League’s best-paid player.
‘The best football’
And, as outlined above, on Saturday, a fresh insight into Pogba’s situation has been provided.
The info comes courtesy of none other than the Frenchman’s boss, who, speaking to the media ahead of his side’s crunch showdown with Liverpool on Sunday, was asked for the latest on contract negotiations between club and player.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, however, was keen to keep his cards close to his chest, albeit whilst assuring that Pogba ‘is happy’ at Old Trafford as things stand:
Solskjær answers about Paul Pogba’s contract situation: “Talks between Pogba and the club I can’t comment. But of course if Paul is happy here; that’s great because then we get the best football from Paul. We need everyone to be giving everything they have”. 🔴 #MUFC @utdreport
