Mack Brown, UNC football program continue to roll on recruiting trail with commitment from 4-star quarterback from class of 2023.
Mack Brown remains one of the hottest and most active head football coaches in the nation, receiving his latest commitment — and first from a member of the 2023 class — from 4-star quarterback Tad Hudson. Hudson’s pledge to the Tar Heels came just hours after the program’s final recruiting event of the summer.
A 6-foot-3, 220-pound junior out of William Amos Hough High School, Hudson hails from Cornelius, North Carolina, and is ranked among the top players in the state. He’s the 175th overall prospect in his class, and the No. 14 quarterback; that according to the 247Sports Composite. The third-ranked player in the state of North Carolina, Hudson, had more than a dozen scholarship offers at the time of his commitment.
He ultimately chose North Carolina over the likes of Arkansas, Auburn, Michigan State, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia Tech. That’s good news for a UNC squad that’s currently ranked 18th in the nation for the 2022 recruiting cycle, but hadn’t received a 2023 pledge prior to Hudson’s.
Hudson was on campus at the Carolina Cookout on Saturday with a number of the Tar Heels’ 2022 recruits, including recent QB commit Conner Harrell. Coincidentally, Hudson and Harrell may be competing for the backup quarterback position next year, and they could be squaring off for the starting role as soon as a couple of years from now.
Hudson led his high school team to an 8-1 record last season and an appearance in the second round of the North Carolina 4AA playoffs. He threw for 1,549 yards and 16 touchdowns. He completed 55 percent of his passes, and threw nine interceptions. He’ll look to continue his ascent this fall, while fine-tuning his mechanics and limiting his mistakes.
