As reported by L’Équipe, the OL Groupe published it’s financial results for the 2020/21 financial year – they made depressing reading for OL fans. The club estimated that, due to the direct and indirect impact of the COVID-19 crisis – including the collapse of Mediapro and it’s Ligue 1 streaming service Téléfoot Chaine, around €150m had been lost in that period of time, before account for player sales.
Turnover was down by 35% compared to the same period in 2019/20 which fell by close to €100m from €271.6m to €177.4m. The absence of ticketing for Lyon games alone accounted for around €31m in losses while a deficit of €10m was inflicted by missing out on Champions’ League football.
On the plus side, player sales were productive with a sizeable part of the squad moving along for serviceable fees while revenue from partnerships reached record levels, rising to €34m. Lyon also point out, that due to careful management, they retain cash capacity of €170m.
