Liverpool to hijack Tottenham Hotspur’s deal for Luis Diaz

Liverpool look to have hijacked Tottenham Hotspurs deal for FC Porto forward Luis Diaz, with reports the player wants to go to Anfield, rather than head to London. Reports tell that the Red’s always had interest in Diaz, but wanted to wait to the summer to pounce. Instead, Tottenham’s attempts to lure the player to them made Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool board think twice, and chose to make a move in this window.

It is understood that the deal will see the Colombian cost around £30 million and see the player move to Merseyside on a contract of around five years.

The 24-year-old is part of Liverpool’s new recruiting drive, with the hope of bringing in younger players to compete with the teams seasoned front-three in Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Though Salah hasn’t slowed down, and Jota has made it into the mix, there is certainly room for more exciting players up top, and the 25-year-old could be just that.

Though he plays as a winger, Diaz can play anywhere across are front three, occasionally being known to cut in and score goals in the top corner.

He has the potential to add not only longevity to Liverpool, but also be the start of a new guard at the club. One that Tottenham will have to watch from a far.
