Liverpool linked with Stefan De Vrij

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Inter Milan defender Stefan De Vrij.

According to Corriere dello Sport (translated by Sportwitness), Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are keen on the player as well and all three clubs would be prepared to submit an offer for the Dutchman.

SL View: De Vrij unlikely to join Liverpool

There is no doubt that Liverpool need to sign a quality centre back in the summer and De Vrij would be a superb addition if they manage to pull it off.

However, the Dutchman has developed into a key player under Antonio Conte and the Italian outfit are looking to tie him down to a new contract.

It seems highly unlikely that they will cash in on the centre back this summer.

The Reds have been linked with the likes of Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig as well. There were reports earlier in the month that the Frenchman is closing in on a move to Anfield but Sportbild have recently rubbished such claims.

It will be interesting to see who Liverpool end up signing in the summer.

The likes of Joel Matip and Joe Gomez cannot be relied upon in terms of fitness and that leaves the Reds with Virgil van Dijk as the only first-team centre back.

The Dutch international is himself returning from a long term injury and he might need some time to regain his sharpness.

Turkish defender Ozan Kabak is currently on loan at Liverpool and the Reds have an option to sign him permanently. It remains to be seen whether the Premier League side take up the option and secure the long term services of the young defender who has done reasonably well since his move to the Premier League.

As far as De Vrij is concerned, the 29-year-old is well settled in Italy and he is playing regularly for a club that could win the title this season. There is no reason for him to leave Inter anytime soon.
