Liverpool linked with Raphinha move

Liverpool are interested in making a move for Leeds United winger Raphinha this summer, according to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Raphinha stars for Leeds

The Brazilian has been a superb signing for the Whites since joining from Rennes in 2020, wreaking havoc with his attacking brilliance on the right flank.

Raphinha leads the way for Leeds in the scoring stakes this season, bagging nine goals in the Premier League, and he has also netted three times in his first seven caps for Brazil.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the past, and a fresh update is now doing the rounds.

The Latest: Liverpool keen on Raphinha

According to Romano on Twitter, the Reds are among a number of clubs who are interested in acquiring Raphinha’s signature at the end of the season.

The journalist posted: “Barcelona are interested in Raphinha alongside Premier League clubs, including Liverpool [Chelsea wanted him, now in stand-by]. Barça already discussed about Raphinha with Deco.”

The Verdict: Potential Salah replacement?

It seems increasingly likely that Raphinha will exit Leeds in the summer – if they end up being relegated from the Premier League, it would almost be a certainty.

With Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool future worryingly up in the air, it could even be that the Brazilian is being viewed as a potential replacement for the Egyptian at Anfield.

The hope is that Salah stays put for many years, of course, but if that doesn’t prove to be the case, Raphinha could be a fantastic alternative, possessing the same deadly left foot and being described as ‘world-class’ by former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

He is also a proven Premier League operator, so there should be no ‘bedding-in’ period required as such, while Liverpool would be getting a player who has shown that he can excel at this level.
