Lionel Messi’s contract at Barcelona expires today, 30 June, and despite club president Joan Laporta’s attempts to get him to extend his contract, the deal has not yet been signed.
Since the president took up his new post, his main priority has been to get Messi to renew his contract.
Almost four months after Laporta became president for a second time, there is still no agreement between the parties. Laporta’s relationship with Leo and his father is very good and he talks to the latter frequently.
Closing the deal is proving to be more difficult than expected, according to a report in Marca. There are several issues that are still unresolved and that have been negotiated at length over the last few days. These are not insurmountable differences, far from it, but the final agreement has not been sealed. It could be concluded shortly, in a matter of days, or it could take longer. Laporta wants a quick agreement. He does not like the idea of seeing Messi without a contract. It is very hard to see the best player in the world leaving Barcelona and both parties should come to an agreement shortly.
