Reports stemming from the Netherlands have credited Leicester City with an interest in David Neres.
David Neres’ Ajax stint
David Neres would join current club Ajax in January of 2017. The Brazilian left his home country for a fee believed to be just shy of £20m.
Neres, now 24, has since gone on to feature on 161 occasions for Ajax’s first-team. In said ties, he has scored 43 goals and provided 39 assists.
Neres also has plenty of experience in both the Champions League and Europa League and would score two and assist two in the former during the 2018/19 campaign when Ajax made it to the semi-finals before losing to Tottenham.
Leicester eyeing Neres
Now Neres, who is contracted to Ajax until 2023, is being linked with a move to the Premier League.
According to Goal, citing Dutch outfit Ajax Showtime, Leicester have set their sights on Neres.
The report claims that Neres was linked with Manchester United earlier in his career, but his stock has fallen lately.
He would still, however, likely make a solid signing for Leicester, who have no natural top-quality options at right-wing currently.
Mark Albrighton can play there and he would score for Leicester vs Norwich on Saturday. But he is now 31 and Leicester fans would likely be eager to see a more promising, younger star brought in to be used alongside both Albrighton and Ayoze Perez.
And Neres would likely be a great option for this. As already mentioned, he has plenty of experience in European football, he is also still yet to enter his prime years and as he is now in the final two years of his contract, perhaps Ajax will be willing to sell him for slightly less than they would have done a few years ago?
