Leicester City predicted lineup vs Liverpool

Leicester City close out 2021 with a Premier League game at the King Power Stadium against title-chasing Liverpool on Tuesday evening.

The Foxes led the visitors 3-1 at half-time in the clubs’ last meeting in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals just six days prior. However, while Brendan Rodgers watched multiple players hobble off injured, the Reds mounted a comeback and advanced to the semis at Leicester’s expense.

Here’s the XI Rodgers may select from his injury-ravaged squad this time…

Wilfred Ndidi could be an emergency centre-back

Kasper Schmeichel (GK) – The rock between Leicester’s posts for the past decade has endured an increasingly error-strewn campaign that hasn’t exactly been aided by the vast quantity of shots flung his way.

Timothy Castagne (RB) – The hugely versatile former Atalanta fullback has proven immensely useful to a squad that is perennially struck down with injuries largely affecting defensive personnel.

Wilfred Ndidi (CB) – The 25-year-old could end up filling in at centre-back to help out amid Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu both missing out.

Jannik Vestergaard (CB) – Amid a spate of injuries to the club captain and most-used outfield player – who form Leicester’s’ first-choice central defensive pairing – Rodgers may well be forced to turn to his 6’7 Dane.

Luke Thomas (LB) – The youngest member of Leicester’s squad to start a match this season is in line for even more outings from the off after injury has besieged both Ryan Bertrand and Ricardo Pereira (again).

Youri Tielemans (CM) – Became the fourth different player to concede a Premier League penalty for Leicester this season on his last outing in the competition against Manchester City,

Boubakary Soumare (CM) – The France youth international at every age bracket from under-16 to under-21 (in six consecutive years between 2014 and 2019) is yet to make his senior bow.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (CM) – The player dubbed ‘Baby Beckham’ in his youth has started Leicester’s last five straight matches.

James Maddison (AM) – Six goals in his last eight matches across all competitions is testament to the dramatically improved shot selection Maddison has been carrying out this season – lining up fewer attempts but from markedly better scoring positions.

Kelechi Iheanacho (ST) – The Nigeria international has perfectly timed his return from a recent spell out to coincide with Patson Daka’s absence.

Jamie Vardy (ST) – Remained an unused substitute against Manchester City on Boxing Day, despite two goals in his return against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup. This should be first league start since early December.
