Leeds United fans react to Nicolas Raskin links

Leeds United have had a worryingly quiet transfer window so far, with no first team signings made despite the lack of options Marcelo Bielsa has had with virus absentees and injuries.

According to the print version of The Sunday Mirror (via Leeds Xtra), everything is in place for midfielder Nicolas Raskin to sign on the dotted line at Elland Road next week. The fee is rumoured to be around £6 million.

Do Leeds need to sign a new striker?

The news was shared by Leeds Xtra on Twitter, sparking discussion amongst the Leeds supporters who were glad to finally see some transfer activity coming out of the club.

What the Leeds fans had to say

“Nice one, I’ve been following this lad’s career closely since about 8.30 this morning…” @tobtipp

“This player I’ve only just heard of is what we need. Looks like a player, from the photo.” @max_gentleman

“He’s got experience in a relegation battle if he’s played for Standard! Get him signed!” @flyhsuk

“It makes more sense than other rumours though, cheap and young, we love that.” @John1919Wakelam

“Sounds ideal for Leeds, can cover Kalvin and play anywhere in midfield.” @leethomas101

“Imagine how good Bielsa could make this lad.” @james_thomps

Clearly the Leeds fans were in good humour given they may not have heard about Raskin until the links this morning.

However, he’s only 20-years-old and has played 18 out of 21 league games for Standard Liege this season, so that shows how mature he must be on the field and how good he is already.

The Belgium u21 international can operate as a six or eight in the midfield, providing Bielsa with cover and options to rotate key players to try and avoid further injuries.

It’s a move they need if they are to keep playing players out of position in the holding midfield role.
