Leeds United: Conor McGilligan discusses Mikkel Damsgaard claims

[ad_1]

Leeds United journalist Conor McGilligan has dismissed claims that the club could make a move for Danish international Mikkel Damsgaard this summer.

A report a few weeks ago from Italian outlet Calcio Mercato (via Yorkshire Evening Post) claimed that Marcelo Bielsa’s side were among a number of Premier League sides that were looking at bagging the 21-year-old’s signature.

Can you remember where Leeds finished in these league seasons? First up: 2018/19

Damsgaard has scored 15 goals and contributed 25 assists through his senior career so far and put in some rather impressive performances at this summer’s European Championships.

And it’s his performances for Denmark that might have changed things for Leeds United and their outlook on him, as speaking during a Q&A on the Leeds Live Facebook page, McGilligan claimed that whilst Leeds United were looking at him, the situation has changed in the past few weeks:

“I believe from what we know here at Leeds Live that he was on a long list, but obviously with what’s happened at the Euros, everything that’s developed with Mikkel Damsgaard, I don’t think he’s made that shortlist.

“But according to several sources, and what we know, he was part of a long list.”

TIF Thoughts on Conor McGilligan’s comments about Mikkel Damsgaard and Leeds United…

Do you think Leeds should try and sign Damsgaard this summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Perhaps his performances were just so good for Denmark that he was pushed out of their price range, which would sort of make sense.

Leeds should still be looking to establish themselves as a Premier League side this season rather than instantly trying to push on after an incredible campaign last time out, whilst at the same time being mindful of second season syndrome.

And whilst he might have been able to produce something for them if he could have replicated his form at both club and international level for them, they shouldn’t be made to pay through the nose for it.
