Leeds United among Premier League clubs chasing Juventus outcast Aaron Ramsey

Leeds United are among three Premier League clubs interested in signing Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey in the January transfer window.

Aaron Ramsey, 30, completed a move to Juventus on a free transfer from Arsenal in the summer of 2019 but has since struggled to earn a regular spot in the starting XI, primarily due to injury problems. The midfielder has been a shadow of the player who was once a star performer for many years during his time with the Gunners in the Premier League. He will be allowed to leave Juventus for free in January.

Ramsey, one of the best Welsh football players, has managed 70 appearances across all competitions for Juventus since arriving two summers ago, including five outings this season. Having failed to keep himself fit more often than not and deliver the goods consistently, the 30-year-old is among those that the Turin giants will listen to offers for in January.

A return to the Premier League is on the cards, with Leeds United looking to sign Ramsey on loan in January with an option to buy at the end of the season but Everton and Newcastle United are ready to lodge permanent offers.

Leeds United could do well with a couple of new additions

Leeds United have been hit by second-season syndrome upon returning to the Premier League last year. They are 14th in the table, struggling with injuries and haven’t been as free-flowing as they were during the previous campaign. Certainly, Marcelo Bielsa and co. will do well with the addition of a couple of fresh faces in the upcoming transfer window.

The Whites boss must target reinforcing his midfield unit, with Kalvin Phillips, Mateusz Klich and Tyler Roberts underperforming so far this term. The return of Adam Forshaw to full fitness after a lengthy layoff has proved a valuable plus for Bielsa, but they need more squad depth to challenge for a top-half finish.

Aaron Ramsey would add a lot of value to the Whites squad

Aaron Ramsey hasn’t lived up to the high expectations at Juventus and isn’t the player he was during his Arsenal days, but he still has some more years to offer at the highest level.

The 30-year-old, who can play in central midfielder, as a No.10 and also on either wing, would add a lot of value to the Leeds United side. He is a tireless worker off the ball, incisive with his passing and a composed finisher in front of goal.

The Wales international has the knack of arriving in the box at the right place and at the right time to score, and would give Leeds’ attack a different dimension. Ramsey’s bags of Premier League experience and ability to play in various positions across midfield and attack could give Bielsa’s squad the lift they need for the second half of the campaign.

Leeds’ midfield lacks creativity and without it, they have suffered for goals. That being said, a player of Ramsey’s qualities and expertise could be a game-changing signing for the Yorkshire giants in January, provided he stays injury-free.
