Leeds must drop Tyler Roberts vs Blades

After the controversy surrounding him on international duty with Wales in midweek, Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa might make it a double whammy for Tyler Roberts by dropping him for Saturday’s clash against Sheffield United.

The 22-year-old was sent home by Wales after breaching protocol, and Bielsa admitted that mistakes do have consequences.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Premier League encounter against the Blades, the Leeds boss said: “Any player that doesn’t adhere to the rules, having accepted them, commits an error. Errors always have consequences.

Should Tyler Roberts be dropped vs Sheffield United?

Yes!

No!

No!

“Some of them are positive, to not repeat the same mistakes again, and others have worse consequences as they sanction you for your mistakes.”

However, just as much as for his off-field infraction, Bielsa should surely drop Roberts against Sheffield United for his sheer lack of impact on the pitch.

With zero goals all season and just two assists in the top flight, the 22-year-old just hasn’t shown anywhere near the kind of level of performances needed in the final third, and it’s no surprise that he has come under some intense criticism.

Former Leeds Noel Whelan simply insisted that the Welshman just may not be cut out for the Premier League, saying: “Is he good enough? In my opinion he isn’t. I would love him to go out there and prove me wrong because I want everyone to succeed. I need him to show me more. He needs to show more fight and desire. I just do not see that.

Whelan himself has even called on Bielsa to drop Roberts from the starting line-up, saying: “I’m just not seeing enough from him. There’s glimpses there but he’s not hurting teams with his performances and his creativity. Now number 10, you’ve got to be that special player. You’ve got to be that player that can open up teams and really take the game by the scruff of the neck. I just don’t think Tyler Roberts does that for Leeds.”

With Rodrigo seemingly set for a return from injury against the Blades, Bielsa must make a ruthless call and drop the £4.5m-rated Roberts from his team on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, this Leeds target has shades of Mark Viduka…
