A late second-half goal by Chrigor capped an epic match between Bragantino and Flamengo on Saturday night at Maracanã, as the visitors won 3-2. Rubro-Negro’s 16-game unbeaten streak came to an end as Aderlan, Eric Ramires, and Chrigor handed them their first loss of the season, putting their team in first place in the Brazilian Championship. Rodrigo Muniz scored both goals for the Rio de Janeiro side.
It was a 90-minute marathon of a game at Maracanã. Bragantino were the superior team in the first 20 minutes and took the lead due to a fantastic strike by Aderlan. After then, Flamengo grabbed command of the game.
Through Rodrigo Muniz’s brace, after Rubro-Negro generated chances and applied pressure, the hosts turned the game around. The first was a tremendous effort from a bicycle kick, and the second was a perfect finish to Michael’s wayward shot.
Despite having more possession of the ball, Rogério Ceni’s team was unable to score a third goal to seal the victory. Ramires levelled the score after multiple attempts in the goal area, and Chrigor completed the comeback in the 98th minute with the game’s final move.
Flamengo hadn’t lost a game in nearly two months. Rogério Ceni’s club had gone 16 games without losing since then. Furthermore, the club had not conceded a goal in five games.
Bragantino now have 11 points from five games, putting them in the Brazilian Championship lead for the time being. Maurcio Barbieri’s side will play Palmeiras at Bragança Paulista on Wednesday.
Flamengo, on the other hand, are in ninth place in the table after three games, with six points. The next match, against Fortaleza, will take place on Wednesday once again at Maracanã.
