LA Galaxy II Drop Season Opener to San Diego Loyal SC

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Playing in their 2022 USL Championship regular-season opener, 10-man LA Galaxy II fell 2-1 on the road to San Diego Loyal SC at Torero Stadium on Saturday night. Preston Judd tallied his first goal of the season for Galaxy II, while Daniel Aguirre registered an assist in the stoppage-time loss to San Diego.


LA Galaxy II Debuts

LA Galaxy II Head Coach Yoann Damet managed his first match for the club. Four players made their debut for LA Galaxy II in the match against San Diego. Goalkeeper Richard Sánchez tallied three saves, while defender Liam Doyle, and forward Michael Salazar both started and played 90 minutes in their debuts for the club. Additionally, defender Dante Campbell was a second-half substitute in his first appearance for LA.

Goal-Scoring Plays

SD – Thomas Amang (Tumi Moshobane), 78th minute: Thomas Amang scored for San Diego as he received a slipped pass by Tumi Moshobane at the top of the penalty area and finished into the back of the net.

LA – Preston Judd (Daniel Aguirre), 85th minute: Daniel Aguirre’s long pass from his own half released Preston Judd behind the San Diego backline. After taking a touch that separated him from his marker, Judd’s low shot from the right side of the penalty area beat the onrushing San Diego goalkeeper.

SD – Own Goal (Jalen Neal), 90+7th minute: Amang’s flicked attempt off a cross from the left side of the field by Charlie Adams hit the underside of the crossbar. The ball quickly fell into the path of Neal inside the six-yard box and was redirected into the back of the net.
