KOTOKO FANS BEAT HEARTS OF OAK WITH ‘ARTICLE 14’

Kumasi Asante Kotoko were able to break their ten years jinx in Kumasi thanks to their vociferous Kumasi Supporters with their article 14 shouts.

The Porcupine Warriors were able to pip their arch rivals Accra Hearts of Oak by a lone goal. The Match Day 24 clash took place at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

The Baba Yara Stadium is well noted for penalties that go in favour of Kotoko. But credit must be given to the Kumasi supporters whose vociferous voices influence the match officials at the Baba Yara stadium. It has their home weapon for years. This is commonly termed as “Article 14” amongst the Kotoko fans.

Franck Mbella scored Kotoko’s goal in the 16th minute from the spot after Fabio Gama was fouled in the box. Hearts of Oak players and management are still contending the penalty given by Referee Kennedy Padi.

Hearts defender Abdul- Aziz Nurudeen fell for the smart move of Fabio as he wanted to stop his quick move into the box.

It is interesting to note that the chorus voice of the supporters shouting “penalty !!!” is strong enough to influence any match official to whistle for the act.

Nonetheless there was no Video Assistant Referee (VAR) to give a second look. This is one of the dangerous weapons of Kotoko fans during their home matches.

The league leaders had not beaten Hearts of Oak in Kumasi for ten years. The best they had secured in the ten year period was a draw.
