It’s been a big week for Kansas State football on the recruiting trail and the Wildcats got more good news this weekend with 4-star QB Avery Johnson, thanks to a favorable decision timeline.
It’s been a good week for Kansas State football recruiting as the Wildcats landed one of the top recruits in the state of Kansas this week thanks to the commitment of four-star running back Dylan Edwards.
Edwards is ranked No. 398 overall in the 247 sports composite rankings for the 2023 class and he’s ranked fourth-best in the state of Kansas.
His commitment was crucial for the Wildcats in the 2023 class and at one time, he was projected to Oklahoma. Nebraska and the Sooners both got official visits, but the old Big 8 rivals weren’t able to steal away Edwards who announced his commitment on Thursday.
While the Wildcats have Deuce Vaughn, he was a three-star recruit and Edwards became the first Top247 running back commitment since 2014.
Edwards is the seventh commitment for Kansas State football in the 2023 class and he’s the fourth top-10 recruit in the state to pledge to the Wildcats, who have five of the top 11.
The Wildcats rank 54th nationally according to the 247 team rankings for 2023 but that ranking is about to get a big boost from four-star quarterback Avery Johnson.
Johnson is the top-ranked player in the state of Kansas in the 2023 cycle and he’s one of the top-ranked quarterbacks that’s uncommitted (12th among QBs, 214th overall).
A good timeline for Kansas State football
But after setting a decision date for July 5th, Johnson won’t be uncommitted much longer and all signs are pointing towards a commitment to Kansas State.
Johnson put out a top three along with his commitment date and Oregon, as well as Washington made the cut along with KSU. The four-star visited Oregon last weekend for an official visit. He was at Kansas State prior to that and at Washington the first weekend in June.
Both Pac-12 schools seemed to impress Johnson but Kansas State football has done a great job recruiting him and with five crystal ball projections in their favor with an average confidence of eight on a scale of 1-10 this feels like a done deal, especially with Oregon trending as the favorite to get Dante Moore, who visited the Ducks this weekend.
Teams like Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, and others will likely try to flip Johnson, even after he announces, but it’s going to be tough. The kid from Maize, Kansas is staying home and I don’t see him wavering on that decision.
