John Terry was gushing with praise for Raphael Varane ahead of his imminent move to Manchester United.
Speaking to Stadium Astro, Terry explained how excited he was to see Varane grace the English top flight.
The French defender is on the brink of being officially unveiled by United, following his £42m (BBC) transfer from Real Madrid.
Old Trafford will have to wait a little longer to witness Varane in the flesh, as Saturday’s Premier League opener against Leeds United has come a little too soon for the 28-year-old.
He is yet to touch base with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad, who should have already gone through their final run-through before the campaign’s curtain-raiser.
But the former Madrid man won’t be waiting in the wings forever.
T and C or M and V?
Solskjaer will be desperate to get him and Harry Maguire up to speed as a defensive partnership.
On paper, this forms arguably the division’s most daunting centre-back duo.
Terry agreed, even admitting that Varane and Maguire was a throwback to his formidable relationship with Ricardo Carvalho during their Chelsea days.
“I think him and Harry will have a great relationship together,” said the Stamford Bridge icon.
“It reminds me of myself and Carvalho. The Rolls Royce that Varane is and how good Harry is on the ball and aggressive as well.
“I think they will be a great combination together. It will definitely strengthen them moving forward.”
Making Harry happy
After Maguire’s major money switch from Leicester City in 2019, it was always going to be a case of finding the right ying to his yang.
Victor Lindelof was the preferred choice last year, but doubts still linger whether the Swede is the right choice.
In Varane, Terry felt United have solved this issue completely.
“When you’ve played the level and the competitions he’s played at- winning World Cups, Champions League- he’ll hit the ground running I’m sure.
“I think from the outside, watching United from afar, I think that’s been a key area they’ve been missing over the last few years.
“So it’s good to see them dip into the market and get such a top player.
“Varane is a top, top player and looking forward to seeing how he does in the league this year.”
Whilst United supporters sit potentially for Varane’s arrival, they have another new recruit to whet their appetite in the meantime.
Jadon Sancho could well make his Red Devils debut tomorrow versus Leeds, as he too looks to announce himself to the league.
