Rangers have fresh competition in their pursuit of Heerenveen playmaker Joey Veerman as AZ Alkmaar appear to have entered the running.
The Ibrox side have already added John Lundstram and Juninho Bacuna to their midfield ranks this summer but Steven Gerrard continues to assess his options in the middle of the park.
There is time left in the window to strengthen further and Dutch playmaker Veerman is still on the agenda.
But there are plenty of other clubs in the running with Feyenoord coming close to a deal earlier this month.
And now AZ Alkmaar boss Pascal Jansen has expressed his desire to land the reported Rangers target.
Jansen is preparing his team for a Europa League fight-back against Celtic after losing their playoff first leg at Parkhead last week.
But he had time to discuss some transfer speculation and delivered an honest assessment of Veerman, who has two assists in two Eredivisie appearances this season.
Jansen said: “I think Joey is a very good player. Whether we can pay him? I really don’t know.
“I say that I think that is a very good player. But no more than that.”
