Harry Kane is never far from the headlines. Kane scored a header in Budapest last night, as England’s quest for a place at the 2022 Qatar World Cup continues.
Kane’s late return to Tottenham’s pre-season is was arguably one of the biggest news stories in the Premier League. Kane is a prolific scorer, yet the three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner has not won major honours with his boyhood club.
Did Kane’s agent try to engineer a route out of Tottenham Hotspur, or had the player become despondent? We may never know the full story. So far so good for Kane and Spurs, the club with the only 100 percent league record for the season and after three games played.
Gareth Southgate doesn’t seem to be bothered about Kane’s domestic ambitions, and why should he? Southgate included his skipper in the latest England team to face Hungary in the World Cup Qualifiers.
Kane wasn’t at his best last night, during England’s 4-0 win, but he was on the scoresheet, and he played for 90 minutes. England plays two more games in quick succession against Moldova and Poland.

Harry Kane (ST) – 6/10 – Was dropping incredibly deep in the first half and his presence in the box was missed, but he stayed more advanced after the break and predictably got his goal. Did miss two or three great chances but fortunately got away with it.
England should walk Group I with the talent available to them. Poland will provide Southgate’s side with a sterner test on Wednesday night. The game gives Kane another opportunity if selected to get back to his best and get amongst the goals.
Kane has made three appearances for Spurs, once as a substitute. The Tottenham star has a tendency to start the season cold, so it’s a boost for Nuno Espirito Santo to see his premier forward scoring goals early on in the season.
The Premier League resumes on September 11th, when Spurs face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, in a lunch-time kick-off. Palace hasn’t had the best starts to the season under Patrick Vieira, drawing two and losing one. If selected, I’m backing Kane to score a brace against Palace’s suspect defence.
Nuno Espirito Santo has got a tough job on his hands to keep his best players at the club. Kane is back in the fold, and he’s scoring goals.
