Gundogan provides fitness update on himself ahead of Champions League final

Man City vs Chelsea

The 2021 Champions League final is of course set to play out later this week.

The tournament’s showpiece is an all-English affair that will see Manchester City and Chelsea face off.

Chelsea are looking to win the Champions League for the second time in their storied history, after first clinching the trophy back in 2012 vs Bayern Munich.

Manchester City, meanwhile, are looking to lift the trophy for the first time ever.

City have of course been one of the most dominant forces in English football since Pep Guardiola took the reins. But City have never made it to the final of the CL under the Spaniard before this season.

Ilkay Gundogan discusses his fitness

Ahead of what should be an entertaining affair, Pep Guardiola would hold his final pre-match press conference of the season on Monday.

The Spaniard would be joined by Ilkay Gundogan when speaking to the media.

The German has been one of City’s standout stars this term, but his fitness ahead of the final was somewhat in doubt after he picked up an issue vs Brighton and was then left on the bench vs Everton over the weekend.

When asked about his fitness on Monday, though, Gundogan had this to say:

“I am alright. I was a little cautious in the Brighton game because of the knock on my knee. I could feel the muscles around it tighten and I didn’t want to pull anything. I didn’t miss any training after it. I am feeling good, thanks for asking.”
