The Chiefs overcame an inconsistent performance by their offense to grind out a 20-17 win over New York in the Week 8 Monday night game.
Tyreek Hill carried the Kansas City passing attack with 12 receptions on 18 targets for 94 yards and a 6-yard touchdown in the first quarter. This offset another subpar showing from Travis Kelce, who managed to gain only 27 yards on four receptions. A lot of credit for this goes to the Giants defense, as New York utilized as many as seven defensive backs on plays in an effort to slow the Chiefs offense.
The Chiefs got solid production out of their ground game, as Darrel Williams and Derrick Gore combined for 97 yards on 24 carries. Gore also contributed a 3-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, which was the first scoring play of his pro career.
Kadarius Toney and Sterling Shepard returned to the lineup after being listed as questionable headed into this game, but they posted a total of only 51 yards on eight receptions. New York did get some big plays out of John Ross, who caught a 50-yard pass in the first quarter, and Devontae Booker, whose 41-yard catch and run in the second quarter led to a 23-yard field goal by Graham Gano.
