Gerard Pique has admitted Barcelona are “in a critical situation” after Sunday’s 2-2 La Liga draw at Osasuna and preceding Champions League exit.
A sorry week for the Catalans – who were dumped into the Europa League for the first time in 20 years after a 3-0 loss versus Bayern Munich – continued when goals from Nico and Abde Ezzalzouli were cancelled out by David Garcia and Ezequiel Avila. This result left them a distant 8th in La Liga.
“A new era starts as the coach said, it’s complicated to reset but we have to get three points in La Liga, it’s the most important thing now so we don’t fall further behind the leaders,” Pique told Movistar.
“It’s a shame (the draw with Osasuna), we played well and we competed at a difficult ground. They’re based on set plays and the equaliser arrived from a rebound.
“Coming from where we’re coming from, I think it was a good game but we’re not happy with the point. We have to turn the page and get three points now.
“The only objective is to think short-term, all the youngsters are doing well and will be good for the club, but now the only thing that matters is winning, winning and winning. It’s urgent.
“We’re in a critical situation and we have to work hard and stick together.”
Barca have travelled to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to meet Boca Juniors in Tuesday’s Maradona Cup, where Dani Alves may feature for the first time since he was re-signed last month.
