Georgios Giakoumakis transfer latest as Celtic target’s salary wishes put Werder Bremen off

[ad_1]

Werder Bremen have pulled out of the race to sign Georgios Giakoumakis, according to a report.

It’s a huge boost for Celtic’s bid to sign the Greek striker with his salary demands reportedly too much for Bundesliga 2 side Werder Bremen.

The frontman is wanted by various clubs but Celtic have already agreed a fee for him, while Werder Bremen also agreed a deal with his club.

VVV-Venlo are set to sell him this summer after his impressive showings in the Eredivisie last season when he finished top scorer despite his club finishing second bottom.

And both Bild and the Daily Record report that Werder Bremen are unable to afford his wages and that could free up Celtic to get the deal done for him.

With less than a week to go before the end of the transfer window, Celtic are still looking to get new signings in the door and Giakoumakis one of their main targets.

They’ve already strengthened their attack with Kyogo Furuhashi while Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths are also still at the club.

Ange Postecoglou has made a number of signings this summer but there was a major rebuild at the club but he knows there’s more needed to challenge on all fronts.
