Gary McAllister names two Rangers youngsters who shone as he raves over ‘mature’ showing

Gary McAllister has heaped praise on Stephen Kelly and Robby McCrorie after their impressive showings against Partick Thistle.

The pair stood out for Rangers in their opening pre-season game of the campaign with McCrorie making two big saves in the first half and Kelly shining in the second period at the heart of the midfield.

And the Rangers assistant boss insists both players deserved their opportunity to show what they can do with both of them impressing out on loan.

He reckons that Kelly has looked solid next to the likes of Steven Davis and Joe Aribo in the middle of the park and feels he can be proud of the efforts he showed on the pitch.

Speaking to RangersTV, he said: “Stephen Kelly did fantastically well.

“Stephen’s progressed really well, he’s had a couple of good loans, he’s gone out and impressed every team he’s gone to.

“I think he warranted that tonight, in amongst some senior players and some top international players he was very competent.”

McCrorie had a difficult time out on loan last season at Livingston after losing his place in the team but McAllister believes McCrorie has ‘matured’.

He’s been impressed by how the Ibrox youngster has shown up in training and expects him to continue developing as a keeper.

He added: “You look at Robby now and he really has matured.

“I’ve noticed that around the training ground, he’s become more of a man.

“He’s taking more responsibility, taking ownership of his back four, and he had a great save from the big lad (Brian) Graham to tip it over the bar.

“He had a really good night.”
