LIMA, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) — Forward Alex Valera has been drafted into Peru’s squad for World Cup qualifiers against Chile, Bolivia and Argentina, the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) said on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old Universitario attacker replaces DC United striker Yordy Reyna, who was ruled out of the matches because of a hamstring injury.
Valera earned the most recent of his two Peru caps in June, when he came on as a substitute during the Blanquirroja’s 1-0 Copa America group stage win over Venezuela in Brasilia.
Peru will host Chile in Lima on Thursday before confronting Bolivia in La Paz and Argentina in Buenos Aires on October 10 and 14, respectively.
Ricardo Gareca’s men are currently seventh in the 10-team South American qualifying group with eight points from nine matches so far.
