Fortaleza claim historic win after five-star thrashing of Internacional – Sambafoot

In the most surprising result of the round, Fortaleza thrashed Internacional 5-1 in the second round of the Brasileirão at Arena Castelo.  For a side dubbed as one of the favorites to win this term, no one probably expected this result from Colorado.

Vojvoda’s team got out to a fast start, quickly pulling ahead of Colorado. With the visitors behind 1-0, Pedro Henrique was sent off in the 43rd minute, allowing Fortaleza to seize control and run riot, ending in a crushing defeat for Inter.

Leao were in command in the first half, with multiple chances to score early on, creating more chances and putting more pressure on Inter’s defence.

In the 17th minute, Lucas Crispim got a foul from Vidal, despite the fact that Vidal was the one who was fouled.

Crispim then attempted to score from a free kick, but the ball struck the crossbar, allowing Titi to score.

The referee awarded Pedro Henrique a straight red card at the stroke of halftime after consulting with the VAR for raising his boot onto Robson while earning a foul.

Soon after, Robson headed in a Lucas Crispim free kick, putting the game out of reach at 2-0.

In the second half, Fortaleza came out strong. Pikachu scored a fantastic goal two minutes after halftime following a throw-in. Later, when attempting to put away a Robson cross, Zé Gabriel scored an own goal, adding to the visitors’ misery.

In the 62nd minute, Praxedes scored a consolation goal for Inter, but Wellington Paulista made it 5-1 four minutes before the final whistle.

Leao will now focus on the return game of the 3rd round of the King Classic for the Copa do Brasil, after drawing 1-1 in the first game against Ceará. On the other hand, Internacional will look to bounce back from this disappointing result when they face Bahia on Sunday in Pituaçu.
