PHNOM PENH (12 Feb 2022) – The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has informed the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) today that they have withdrawn from the upcoming AFF U23 Championship 2022 due to COVID-19 complications.

Several members of the Indonesia U23 team have tested positive for COVID-19 during their pre-departure tests, with a wider group put in isolation for observation as they were identified to be close contacts of these members.

AFF President, Major General Khiev Sameth, said, “We are deeply saddened to receive the news from PSSI but fully understand and empathise with the Indonesian U23 team. The pandemic has affected many people in the ASEAN region and continues to impact our communities today. While we will miss seeing the Indonesia U23 Team defend their crown this year, we believe that the health and safety of everyone are of utmost importance and wish the affected members of the Indonesia U23 team a speedy recovery.”

Indonesia was originally scheduled to kick off their campaign in Group B on 15 February against Laos at the Prince Stadium.

A revised match schedule will be announced shortly.
