Bragantino fought back from a goal down to defeat Fluminense 2-1, but they will still be eliminated from the Copa do Brasil after losing the first leg 2-0.
In the first half, both Bragantino and Fluminense were evenly matched. In an attempt to overturn the outcome, the hosts had greater ball possession and continuously attacked Marcos Felipe’s area, but they couldn’t break through the tricolor’s compact and organized defence.
Bragantino had more chances in front of goal, including two with Arthur, a rocket from Ytalo, and a shot from Jadsom, who came close to making the goalie work.
Fluminense, on the other hand, played a solid defense and attempted to capitalize on counterattacks, with two promising chances. One was with Biel after a corner kick, and the other was with Martinelli, who came close to scoring a fantastic goal.
The game remained incredibly intense in the second stage. The two teams followed the same game strategy as in the first half until Nenê opened the scoring for the visitors in the 61st minute with a fantastic free kick.
Bragantino began to attack with greater zeal and began to press, after conceding. They drew level in the 67th minute, generated more chances, and scored their second late on in the 89th minute, with Hurtado scoring both goals.
In the latter stages of the game, Massa Bruta placed a lot of pressure, venturing from afar and crossing a lot in the area but failing to score. Fluminense were able to keep their place in the next round by maintaining their position.
With the result, Fluminense had not only advanced to the Copa do Brasil round of 16, but they had also ended a six-year drought in which they had not defeated a Serie A team in the knockout stage. They last advanced to the quarterfinals in 2015, defeating Grêmio in the process.
