Flamengo and CBF, who recently had tough moments with Gabigol, are rumoured to be continuing their feud this week. According to the pre-list for the Tokyo Games, the club has no intention of releasing Rodrigo Caio, Gabigol, or Pedro over a dispute that is not a FIFA date.
Flamengo are holding off on making a decision until the final decision is made, but they are aware that Palmeiras and PSG will take the same approach.
After missing Everton Ribeiro and Gabigol for a month due to the Copa America, the board acknowledges that losing players during the Brazilian Championship makes no sense. After the CBF approves the presentation on July 11th, any discussion on the matter will commence.
Another factor influencing the decision was that the Tokyo Games preparation began before the Copa America, which ends on July 10th. The CBF coordination has not yet declared the start date for work at Granja Comary, but the final call will be taken next Thursday, and the competition in Japan will take place between July 21st and August 7th.
Gerson, another Flamengo player in the call, will still be at the club on the day of the call, but that won’t be a problem because he’s already signed to terms with Olympique de Marseille.
Pedro is the only member of the Rubro-negro trio of Olympic age, and he is also the one in the most perilous situation. The striker is a near-certain name on Jardine’s list, having scored three goals in two matches in the last two friendlies in Serbia. He has ambitions to compete in the Olympics.
Until the call is confirmed, there is no internal debate on the publication. The scheduling conflict, notably with the Copa America, complicates the situation significantly.
Among the others on the list, Gabriel and Rodrigo Caio were Olympic gold medalists in Rio de Janeiro back in 2016.
