Finidi George under pressure in Aba as Rivers, Plateau United continue fierce battle

Enyimba saw their struggles under ex-Super Eagles winger Finidi George continue as they were hammered 2-0 in Uyo by Dakkada FC on NPFL Matchday 17.

The People’s Elephant had enjoyed a brilliant start to life under Finidi George, but a series of poor results have seen things turn around quickly for the side who are expected to be in the title race.

Plateau United kept up their pursuit of Rivers United at the top of the NPFL table after a narrow and late 1-0 win over Katsina United in Jos. Buhari Ibrahim scored the only goal of the game for the Peace Boys in the 90th minute of the encounter to give his side maximum points and keep them one point behind Rivers United.

Kwara United sealed a hard-fought 2-1 win over MFM FC away from home at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on NPFL Matchday 17. Goals from Junior Lokosa and Alao Danbani put the visitors two goals up before Akanni Elijah pulled one back for the hosts, who remain bottom of the standings.

Remo Stars won their third consecutive Southwestern Derby in the NPFL this season after a 3-0 thrashing of Sunshine Stars in Ikenne. Seun Ogunribide opened the scoring for the Sky Blue Stars before a late brace from substitute Andy Okpe gave the home side maximum points.

An early strike from Abubakar Aliyu was enough for Wikki Tourist to secure all three points from their NPFL Matchday 17 clash against Lobi Stars following a 1-0 victory.

Kano Pillars returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Nasarawa United at home. First half goals from Mark Daniel and Ifeanyi Eze were enough for Kano Pillars to secure all three points.

Abia Warriors and champions Akwa United played out a goalless draw at the Okigwe Township Stadium in their NPFL Matchday 17 encounter.

Rangers picked up a 1-0 win in their home clash against newly-promoted Gombe United thanks to  a strike from Chidiebere Nwobodo in the fourth minute of the second half.

Heartland secured a 1-0 victory of their own against Niger Tornadoes in Owerri on NPFL Matchday 17. A long range shot from Jonas Emmanuel beat the goalkeeper and nestled in the back of the Tornadoes net, giving Heartland all three points.
