Torres completes Barca move

Manchester City and Spain winger Ferran Torres became the first move of the January transfer window as he completed the switch from Manchester to Barcelona today.

The 21 year old joined the Catalan giants in a deal worth up to 65 million euros, and signed a contract with them until 2027.

And, after being stung by low release clauses when Neymar joined Paris Saint Germain, Barcelona have made no such mistake this time. Torres’ deal contains a buyout clause set at a whopping 1 billion euros, the same as Pedri and Gavi.

The Spaniard will be officially unveiled next Monday.

What he adds to Barcelona

In an official statement, Barcelona outlined what they hoped their new signing would bring to the side, saying:

He brings yet more youth and goalscoring ability to the blaugrana attack. He is a hugely versatile player who can play in any position in the forward line, on the left, right or in the centre. In each of these positions, he is a player with plenty of speed, verticality, quality and intelligence.

One of the most important of his many virtues is his shooting accuracy. He is a master at losing his marker, finding the right position in the area, having an eye for spotting space and very quick to turn chances into shots. Hard work has honed his attacking skills to perfection – Ferran Torres’ mentality has always been one of constant self-improvement”

Will Torres be the man to help Barcelona fly back up the table and potentially even lift the Europa League this season, or will he join the list of expensive flops that currently sit in Catalonia? All signs point to the former.
