January 4, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – FC Cincinnati News Release
FC Cincinnati have signed forward Dominique Badji (Dom-in-EEK BAH-jee) to a contract through the 2022 season, with club options for 2023 and 2024, the club announced today.
The 29-year-old finished the 2021 season with the Colorado Rapids, where he scored five goals, including three game-winners, in 319 minutes across 12 appearances.
“We’re excited to add a player of Dominique’s quality and character to the group,” said FC Cincinnati General Manager Chris Albright. “He is a proven goalscorer in MLS, and his elite pace and work rate fit well into what we’re trying to build here.”
Since his MLS debut in 2015, Badji has made 153 regular season MLS appearances, 103 of which have come with Colorado over two stints with the club. He has scored 38 career goals and earned 17 assists in his seven-year MLS career, and he is five minutes shy of playing 10,000 career minutes.
In July 2021, Badji was traded to the Rapids from Nashville SC, where he spent the 2020 season. He started and played 75 minutes in Colorado’s Western Conference Semifinal loss to Portland Timbers FC this past November. In total, he has appeared in six career matches in the MLS Cup Playoffs.
From 2015-17, he made 75 appearances and scored 17 goals and earned 10 assists with Colorado, including career-highs coming in 2017 in games played (33), starts (29), goals (nine) and assists (six). After beginning the next season in Colorado, he was traded to FC Dallas in July 2018 where he would spend the remainder of the season and all of 2019. He totaled eight goals and four assists with Dallas before being acquired by Nashville prior to their inaugural season.
