Everton have announced the signing of Sweden international, Anna Anvegard on a two-year contract until June 2023.

Anvegard joins on a free transfer from Rosengard upon expiry of her contract after having spent the last two seasons playing for the Malmo-based club, where she won the Damallsvenskan Golden Boot in both seasons after amassing 30 goals in total across both campaigns.

Speaking to evertonfc.com, Anvegard described her move to the Toffees and Women’s Super League as “amazing” after spending recent months in discussions with club bosses in regards to making a move.

Anvegard is Everton’s third summer signing after Kenza Dali and Toni Duggan, of which all three are looking to push for Women’s Champions League qualification this season with the Swede excited to know that the club sees Europe as “a big goal” if they can finish in the top three this season.

The 24 year-old however has iterated that fans shouldn’t expect that ambition to materialise quickly, adding: “It’ll be hard but I think we can get up there.”

Everton Women manager, Willie Kirk meanwhile hailed Anvegard’s arrival as “a fantastic signing” after beating serious competition to sign her, whilst also commenting that her arrival should serve as “a big statement in terms of where we’re going as a club and how we are viewed across Europe by other players.”

Anvegard is currently travelling to Tokyo, Japan, with Sweden for this summer’s Olympics with Kirk describing her as one of Sweden’s most “important” players, whilst hoping that she will be the same at Everton given her “flexible” versatility in where she can play tactically in a formation.

Explaining Anvegard’s qualities, Kirk commented: “She can play right across the front line, she can play as our leading nine, in behind as a 10, come off the wide areas and drive in-field into those spaces.”

Anvegard will join up with her new teammates next month upon the conclusion of the Olympics.
