Everton have “discussed” making a move for former Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier, according to reports.

The full-back spent three years at PSG before he made the move to Spurs in 2017. The Londoners spent around £23m to bring him to the Premier League.

Aurier was in and out of the team during his four years in North London. He played 77 times in the Premier League up until the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

Farewell then James, an inevitable but glorious flop

In August, it was announced that the defender had left Spurs. He and the club mutually agreed to terminate his contract.

It was later reported that the defender was “keen” to stay in the Premier League.

Aurier is yet to find a new club but Everton are said to be keeping tabs on him.

Liverpool Echo have reported that Everton have “discussed” making a move for the defender. This comes after James Rodriguez departed to join Qatar-based side Al Rayyan.

The report adds that the Toffees are not currently “actively pursuing” a deal for Aurier.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur have been busy in the summer transfer market.

Cristian Romero from Atalanta was one of several new signings. Pierluigi Gollini, who also joined Spurs in the summer, believes that Romero is “perfect for the Premier League”:

“Obviously it’s not been easy because he didn’t have enough time to spend here because of spending time with the national team, and also he’s got a little problem with his knee, but he’s going to be good.

“He’s learning the Premier League but he already knows the game. So he’ll be fine and very good.

“This guy is an animal, I swear. He’s perfect for the Premier League.

“He’s played for many years with three at the back and especially when you play with a very aggressive style and play man for man, it’s a completely different to thing to in a four.

“You have to work and defend more like a group, a group of four and defend more the zone and less the man. So he needs to adjust and he will do it because he’s a clever guy and an amazing player.

“He will, but obviously all these things need time. Everybody needs time to adapt, to adjust to a new culture and a new country.”
