Welcome to Total Dutch Football’s Team of the Week which leads into our 2020/21 Eredivisie Player of the Season Tournament.
Each player that is selected for the Team of the Week receives a point and the Player of the Week receives two more points. We count these up over the season and then award the player with the most points as the Player of the Season.
Read on to see who has been awarded the points for this week.
GOALKEEPER: Thorsten Kirschbaum (VVV)
The score could have been a lot worse for VVV against Heerenveen if the 33-year-old German stopper had not pulled off seven saves on Saturday evening.
DEFENDER: Sean Klaiber (FC Utrecht)
The full-back was influential in Utrecht’s 3-1 victory winning six of his seven challenges on the floor and an 85% passing accuracy.
DEFENDER: Yuta Nakayama (PEC Zwolle)
The Japanese defender headed home in the 4-0 win over Sparta and provided support at the other end winning five of the seven duels in the air.
DEFENDER: Marcos Senesi (Feyenoord)
A centre-back performing a sublime volleyed goal, unlucky not to win our POTW award this week for that alone.
DEFENDER: Philipp Max (PSV)
The German left-back makes another appearance in our TOTW and showed his spot-kick taking prowess in his side’s disappointing 1-1 draw away to Heracles.
MIDFIELDER: Clint Leemans (PEC Zwolle)
The former PSV youth supplied a goal and assist in his side 4-0 win over Henk Fraser’s Sparta. A total of 21 of his 25 passes met their target.
MIDFIELDER: Joey Veerman (sc Heerenveen)
Three weeks of Eredivisie football and three weeks Veerman makes the TOTW. Joey converted a penalty and frustrated VVV so much that two of them were dismissed for fouling the midfielder.
MIDFIELDER: Mohamed Kudus (Ajax)
At just 18-year-old, Kudus continues to impress and providing an assist to fellow newcomer Antony and supplied an 88% passing accuracy rate in Ajax’s 2-1 win over Vitesse despite being down under ten men.
FORWARD: Vaclav Cerny (FC Twente)
A goal and an assist in Twente’s 3-1 Friday night win over FC Groningen and if it wasn’t for what looked to be an incorrect VAR decision, he could have been awarded another goal.
FORWARD: Zian Flemming (Fortuna Sittard)
The former Ajax youth signed for Fortuna in the summer from PEC Zwolle, Flemming has settled well in Sittard and notched twice in Saturday’s 3-3 draw against AZ including a 96th minute equaliser.
FORWARD: Antony (Ajax)
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Well, well, well the young Brazilian was terrific in the 2-1 win over Vitesse, notching an excellent goal and skipped past five opponents in his six dribbling attempts. Provided three key passes, three out of three long ball efforts landed with a total of 85% successful passes. Well done young man – here’s our Player of the Week.
