The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) had sacked Carlos Queiroz after failing to secure qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar back in March.
However, EFA board member Hazem Emam has revealed they could be bringing back Portuguese manager Queiroz.
Ehab Galal was announced as Egypt’s new head coach hours later and his opening games were in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
A late strike from Galatasaray’s Mostafa Mohamed was enough for Egypt to scrap out a win and earn all three points in their first group game against Naby Keita’s Guinea.
However, they fell to an embarrassing 2-0 defeat to Ethiopia in a game that saw Egypt create very few chances.
Five days later, they suffered another humiliating 4-1 defeat to Son Heung-min’s South Korea in a friendly match to mark Galal’s second defeat.
As a result, the EFA decided to sack Galal after just three games in charge despite appointing him as head coach a little over two months ago.

They have now revealed that Carlos Queiroz is one of the leading candidates to take on Egypt’s vacant coaching role.
“I respect Carlos Queiroz very much and the work he did with the Egyptian national team.” Emam said at the EFA’s press conference.
“I know fans have criticised him for his defensive approach. But the way they wanted him to play was difficult to achieve on the pitch.
“I haven’t spoken to Queiroz since he left the national team. But he is certainly one of the leading candidates to coach Egypt going forward.
“I will not reveal the names of the other candidates. Because we are still in talks. There is a large number of managers who are interested in this opportunity.” He added.
