Darwin Machis’ transfer from Granada to Charlotte FC collapses

Charlotte FC’s deal to sign striker Darwin Machis from La Liga side Granada is off, sources have confirmed to 90min.

The expansion team were primed to pay $6m to sign the 28-year-old as a Designated Player, with terms already agreed and a medical completed.

However, as first reported by MLSsoccer.com, Machis has an unresolved legal issue ongoing in Spain that has seen the deal collapse. A source with knowledge of the situation has confirmed the report to 90min.

Although he’s featured for Udinese, Machis has spent the majority of his career with Granada, scoring 31 goals and setting up another 22 in 145 matches across all competitions for the La Liga club. At international level, he’s scored nine times in 35 senior caps for Venezuela.

The collapse of Machis’ move means Charlotte remain worryingly short in attacking positions with their first ever MLS match racing into view.
